Desiderata

The term means a list of what you'll need or instructions on how to do a thing. If you mean the poem by Max Ehrmann of that name, it is a list of instructions on how to live life. Each line is pretty clear in itself if you just stop and look at it - like, go placidly amidst the noise and haste and confusion - just means, well, that - go placidly - peacefully - through the noise and haste, etc.

Go placidly amidst the noise and haste, and remember what peace there may be in silence. As far as possible without surrender be on good terms with all persons. Speak your truth quietly and clearly; and listen to others, even the dull and the ignorant; they too have their story.
Avoid loud and aggressive persons, they are vexatious to the spirit. If you compare yourself with others, you may become vain or bitter; for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself.
Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans. Keep interested in your own career, however humble; it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time.
Exercise caution in your business affairs; for the world is full of trickery. But let this not blind you to what virtue there is; many persons strive for high ideals; and everywhere life is full of heroism.
Be yourself. Especially, do not feign affection. Neither be cynical about love; for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment it is as perennial as the grass.
Take kindly the counsel of the years, gracefully surrendering the things of youth. Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune. But do not distress yourself with dark imaginings. Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness.
Beyond a wholesome discipline, be gentle with yourself. You are a child of the universe, no less than the trees and the stars; you have a right to be here.
And whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should. Therefore be at peace with God, whatever you conceive Him to be, and whatever your labors and aspirations, in the noisy confusion of life keep peace with your soul. With all its shams, drudgery, and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. Be cheerful.
Strive to be happy.

Tropical Cyclone

  • A tropical cyclone is a storm system characterized by a low-pressure center and numerous thunderstorms that produce strong winds and heavy rain. Tropical cyclones strengthen when water evaporated from the ocean is released as the saturated air rises, resulting in condensation of water vapor contained in the moist air. They are fueled by a different heat mechanism than other cyclonic windstorms such as nor'easters, European windstorms, and polar lows. The characteristic that separates tropical cyclones from other cyclonic systems is that at any height in the atmosphere, the center of a tropical cyclone will be warmer than its surroundings; a phenomenon called "warm core" storm systems.

GLOBAL WARMING

  • Today I learned that Global warming is the rise in the average temperature of Earth's atmosphere and oceans since the late 19th century, and its projected continuation. Since the early 20th century, Earth's mean surface temperature has increased by about 0.8 °C (1.4 °F), with about two-thirds of the increase occurring since 1980. Warming of the climate system is unequivocal, and scientists are more than 90% certain that it is primarily caused by increasing concentrations of greenhouse gases produced by human activities such as deforestation and the burning of fossil fuels. These findings are recognized by the national science academies of all major industrialized nations.
  • I will apply my learnings about Global warming in order for me to be aware about the effects of the Global warming.
  • Learning about Global warming is important because I can be knowledgeable, ready and prepared.
  • On a larger scale I will share my learnings to others for them to know what my learnings about Global warming.
  •  I need to learn more about Global warming because it is a phenomenon that affects everyone including ME :).

LOW-PRESSURE AREA

  • Today I learned that A low-pressure area, low or depression, is a region where the atmospheric pressure at sea level is lower than that of surrounding locations. Low-pressure systems form under areas of wind divergence which occur in upper levels of the troposphere. The formation process of a low-pressure area is known as cyclogenesis. Within the field of atmospheric dynamics, areas of wind divergence aloft occur in two areas. The first area is on the east side of upper troughs which form half of a Rossby wave within the Westerlies (a trough with large wavelength which extends through the troposphere). A second area of wind divergence aloft occurs ahead of embedded shortwave troughs which are of smaller wavelength. Diverging winds aloft ahead of these troughs cause atmospheric lift within the troposphere below, which lowers surface pressures as upward motion partially counteracts the force of gravity.

EL NIÑO and LA NIÑA Phenomena

  • Today I learned that El Niño/La Niña-Southern Oscillation, or ENSO, is a quasiperiodic climate pattern that occurs across the tropical Pacific Ocean roughly every five years. The Southern Oscillation refers to variations in the temperature of the surface of the tropical eastern Pacific Ocean (warming and cooling known as El Niño and La Niña respectively) and in air surface pressure in the tropical western Pacific. The two variations are coupled: the warm oceanic phase, El Niño, accompanies high air surface pressure in the western Pacific, while the cold phase, La Niña, accompanies low air surface pressure in the eastern Pacific.[2][3] Mechanisms that cause the oscillation remain under study while La Niña is a coupled ocean-atmosphere phenomenon that is the counterpart of El Niño as part of the broader El Niño-Southern Oscillation climate pattern. During a period of La Niña, the sea surface temperature across the equatorial Eastern Central Pacific Ocean will be lower than normal by 3–5 °C. In the United States, an episode of La Niña is defined as a period of at least 5 months of La Niña conditions. The name La Niña originates from Spanish, meaning "the girl," analogous to El Niño meaning "the boy."

My Low Carbon Diet Journal

Week #1
A week passed by, although it's always raining, I spent my whole week thriftly. And it worth it!I don't have to use our electric fan so often. Our electricity bill decrease.

Week # 2
A very cold week passed by, and not noticing it is weekend already. I charge my cellphone just once a week and unplug it after. We also made some rules in our house like turning off the appliances when not in use. At list our little routines not just help us not to have any problems on our water bills but also saving energy for our mother earth.

Week # 3
A week passed by. We thought it would be better use flat iron once a week.We also always used to clean our refrigerator because we found out that when it is not clean within a week, our bill would increase. And also drying the outer part of water containers before placing it in the refrigerator will help us to lessen the consume of electricity.

Week # 4
A week passed by. i learned that being thrifty in using water can also save energy. So instead of using so many plates in times of our meals, we make that what we just need. Not just in washing dishes but also washing our clothes. Usually, we wash our clothes two times a week. but now we wash our clothes only on weekends. Every little or simple ways can help us t save energy and to lessen our electricity and water bills.

Week # 5
A week passed by, many things had happened. Honestly, I don't remember much, but all I know is all I did is to save energy. Not noticing doing such thing but I consider myself as an energy saver. From Monday to Thursday I preferred not to use cellphones, gadgets and television. I always used to go sleep and turn off the lights as early as much as possible not just to be scolded by my Grandmother.:)

Week # 6
A week passed by, persuing my obligations as an energy saver is a hard task guess. Well, it happened to be so boring that sometimesI can't even watch television. But I know that my sacrifices aren't wasted at all. When we are on an outing, and if it is Just right in the corner, we use to walk and not bother to ride and waste our money. We also used to make some changes in our daily routines like instead of cooking just one dish every meal, we cook two dishes or more.

Week # 7
A week passed by. I learned many things in saving energy. I learned that the appliance that consumes the most of the energy is the electric fan. Using electric fan so often is not a good habit. Not just learning about the appliance but also knowing how to use it is the most important of all. Learning about this matter isn't a waste of time. I can apply my learning in my everyday life:).

Week # 7
A week passed by, many storms and typhoons had destroyed and flooded some areas in Bulacan and also in different parts of the Philippines. Good for us, we didn't get into this kind of situations. Well, I cleaned up my bag and knew that I had so many trashes. Then, my brother said that he needed trashes such as papers for their project. It helped me a lot in cleaning my things and also save energy. In just little ways, I'd be able to conserve and save our MOTHER EARTH.:)

Tropical Depression

* Today I learned that Tropical Depression is a tropical depression is an organized system of clouds and thunderstorms with a defined, closed surface circulation and maximum sustained winds of less than 34 knots (39 mph). It has no eye and does not typically have the organization or the spiral shape of more powerful storms. However, it is already a low-pressure system, hence the name "depression".The practice of the Philippines is to name tropical depressions from their own naming convention when the depressions are within the Philippines' area of responsibility.

* This information will help me in knowing what are the signs of a typhoon.

* I would like to know more about it's possible effects and it's causes.

* As a science class student, the knowledge I gained about this can help me and also my classmates and other people around the world.

MONSOON RAINS

  • Today I learned that MONSOON is traditionally defined as a seasonal reversing wind precipitation, but is now used to describe seasonal changes in atmospheric circulation and precipitation associated with the asymmetric heating of land and sea.Usually, the term monsoon is used to refer to the rainy phase of a seasonally-changing pattern, although technically there is also a dry phase.
  • I will apply my learnings about MONSOON in order for me to be aware about the effects of the monsoon rains.
  • Learning about MONSOON is important because I can be knowledgeable, ready and prepared.
